Relocating from Florida to Virginia: Was It Worth It?

Florida's year-round sunshine and no state income tax make it an easy place to settle in, but trading the Sunshine State for the Commonwealth of Virginia brings more change than many people anticipate. Florida offers beachside living, flat terrain, and a subtropical climate that rarely dips below comfortable, while Virginia counters with four true seasons, rolling mountains, and a cost of living that shifts dramatically depending on how close you land to Washington D.C. Our Snappy Scout team (Vanessa & Laura) broke down the costs, logistics, and lifestyle adjustments you should plan for before loading up the moving truck.

How the Food Scene Compares Between FL and VA

Eating Like a Local in Florida

This really varies by where in Florida you are. But, generally, Cuban and Latin-inspired food here is very popular, as well as what I refer to as "beach bar food:" coconut shrimp, grouper bites, crab cakes, gator bites, fish tacos, and of course, margaritas (especially spicy ones with a Tajin rim).

I don't think there are any unspoken rules here, per se, except that you always want to get the freshest fish available, such as mahi mahi or grouper, and skip the conventional white fish.
