Westminster Neighborhood Guide

Westminster is a residential pocket in the western half of Elizabeth where the streets are wide enough for driveways, the lawns actually get mowed, and the proximity to Newark Liberty Airport is a selling point rather than a complaint. The neighborhood borders Kean University along its western edge, which brings a steady current of students, move-in weekends, and institutional energy to an otherwise calm, family-oriented stretch of the city. Empanadas and backyard cookouts are part of the regular rhythm here, and residents tend to stay close to home on weekends rather than commuting somewhere else to relax. The main friction is traffic on the corridors feeding toward Broad Street and the parkway, which can slow things down predictably enough that locals plan around it.
