West End Neighborhood Guide

Richmond's West End stretches from the Boulevard westward through Henrico County, anchored by Short Pump Town Center and the commercial corridors along Broad Street and The Avenues. It is the part of the metro area where suburban infrastructure is most fully realized: wide parking lots, newer construction, and a density of retail and chain dining that makes most errands genuinely easy. The tradeoff is a streetscape built around the car, and Broad Street traffic that can turn a short trip into a frustrating one at almost any hour. Residents tend to stay on their side of the Boulevard, and the neighborhood rewards that instinct with convenience even if it does not offer much in the way of urban texture or walkable character. For people who prioritize new builds, space, and practical amenities over neighborhood atmosphere, the West End delivers reliably.

Where SUVs Outnumber Sidewalks

🧭Generally defined as the area: west of the Boulevard, north of the river, roughly from Libbie Avenue out past Short Pump, bleeding into Henrico County

📌Best known for: Short Pump Town Center and every chain restaurant known to man

👕You'll fit in if: you drive a Lexus SUV and never cross the Boulevard, wear a U of Richmond hoodie

👍Move here for: brand new everything and parking lots wide as football fields

👎The downside to West End is: soul crushing traffic on Broad Street during literally any hour

TLDR;: Suburban convenience without the charm
