Thunderbolt Neighborhood Guide

Thunderbolt sits along the Wilmington River just east of Savannah proper, and its identity has been shaped by that waterfront address for generations. This is working-water Savannah: shrimp boats still come in off the river, residents dock behind their houses, and the line between a driveway and a boat slip is largely a matter of preference. The neighborhood runs south from Victory Drive toward Whitemarsh Island, bounded by marshland that longtime locals know how to read at low tide. River Drive floods reliably enough that residents plan around it, a minor tax for living somewhere you can be on the water within minutes of leaving your back door. The overall character here is unpretentious and genuinely coastal in a way that Savannah's more polished neighborhoods never quite manage.
