Thomas Square Neighborhood Guide

Thomas Square sits roughly between Paulsen Street and DeRenne Avenue, bounded by Bee Road and Waters Avenue, a tidy midcentury grid that reads more like a quiet suburb than the historic downtown Savannah most visitors picture. Ranch houses with functional garages and actual yards define the streetscape here, and the neighborhood has held onto a genuinely residential character that becomes harder to find the closer you get to the squares. It is not particularly walkable, and residents tend to drive everywhere, but that tradeoff comes with space, privacy, and neighbors more interested in keeping their lawns cut than in preserving the appearance of any particular aesthetic. For people who want to live near downtown without living inside the performance of it, Thomas Square offers a low-key foothold in a city where that balance is increasingly difficult to strike.
