Shaker Square Neighborhood Guide
Octagon Charm and EDWINS Flex
🧭The Boundaries: Larchmere Blvd. to the north, Buckeye Rd. to the south, E. 116th St. to the west, and the Shaker Heights line to the east.
📌Well known for: It’s the oldest shopping district in Ohio and the second-oldest in the US. It’s famous for its unique octagonal layout and the Shaker Rapid (Blue and Green lines) that cuts right through the middle. For "educational value," I also have to mention EDWINS Leadership & Restaurant Institute, a high-end French eatery that trains formerly incarcerated individuals, it’s arguably the most important restaurant in the city.
👕Spot a Local By: A resident with an espresso loyalty card and the RTA Rapid schedule permanently burned into their brain.
👍Move here for: Leafy boulevards and historic feel. You get a Saturday morning Farmers Market that makes you feel like you live in a movie, and you can be in University Circle or Downtown in 10 minutes via the train.
👎Don't say we didn't warn you about: The "Octagon Confusion", drivers here don't understand how the Square works, and neither will you for the first six months.
