Old Hickory Neighborhood Guide

Old Hickory is one of Jackson's most established suburban neighborhoods, built out largely in the 1960s with the brick ranch homes and generous lots that define its character today. Tree-lined streets, wide yards, and a general sense of being left alone are the main draws, and the neighborhood has its own exit off I-40 that keeps it feeling self-contained. It has historically been a car-dependent area with little in the way of walkable retail, but that is beginning to shift as the city redevelops the former Jackson Plaza site into a major complex featuring a 6,500-seat arena, convention center, and hotels. For families who want established neighborhoods with room to breathe and historic feel without the cost of closer-in areas, Old Hickory offers a straightforward and durable appeal.

Where The Trees Outdate The Gossip

๐ŸงญGenerally defined as the area: Roughly between Highland Avenue to the north, Airways Boulevard to the east, Old Hickory Boulevard winding through the middle, and stretching west toward Campbell Street, with it's own exit (85) off I-40.

๐Ÿ“ŒOld Hickory is best known for: Tree lined streets and brick ranches from the 60s. The city is transforming the former Jackson Plaza shopping center (including a long-vacant Service Merchandise building) into a 140,000-square-foot event center with a 6,500-seat arena, convention center, and hotels.

๐Ÿ‘•You'll fit in if: You mow on Saturday mornings and wave at every car that passes.

๐Ÿ‘Locals live here because: The lots are huge and nobody bothers you.

๐Ÿ‘ŽDon't say we didn't warn you about: Zero walkability; you'll drive everywhere including the mailbox.

โœจThe vibe around Old Hickory is: Quiet suburban time capsule energy undergoing revitalization.
