Getting Around Naperville: Tollways, trains and construction season
Commutes, congestion, transit, and parking: what getting around Naperville really takes.

Hannah, Our Local Expert Guiding Your Move
Hannah has spent her entire life in Illinois, learning early that the state is equal parts cornfields, quiet downtowns, and people claiming Chicago when they're really living a life in the burbs. She loves Mauve Cocktail Lounge treats, small town downtowns, travel books (she's been voraciously reading them since elementary school), ice cream at the OG Dairy Queen, and correcting grammar just for fun. At Snappy Scout, Hannah edits Illinois moving guides with decades of relocation experience, old soul wisdom, and just enough youthful energy to keep it practical.

How Do You Get Around Naperville?
Commutes, congestion, transit, and parking: the daily logistics nobody puts on the listing.
The time I spend getting to/from work every day is
either 12 minutes if the stars align and you catch Metra on time, or 90 minutes if traffic on Route 59 decides to audition for Fast & Furious: Suburbs Edition.
Traffic congestion areas to avoid
Route 59 during morning/evening commutes, school drop-off/pick-up, Friday afternoon errands, or basically any time you dare to drive - because it’s always hell.
Ability to get around without a car
Possible if you like waiting 30–40 minutes for a bus, but with a $150K median household income, who doesn’t have a car? Neighbors will assume you’re going through something.
Locals dream of driving around in a
Tesla Model X or any electric vehicle, sipping lattes and silently judging the gas guzzlers at Whole Foods Market.
The reality is that most locals drive
a spotless white or silver Lexus RX, pristine enough to make you wonder if it’s ever touched a salt‑stained winter road.
Quirky local driving habit
Full stop at green lights before turning into Starbucks - because the caffeine hasn't hit just yet.
The likelihood of finding parking
Decent chances everywhere except downtown. Say a prayer and find that hidden parking garage.
#1 driving tip
Assume every SUV you pass is juggling school drop-offs, soccer practice, and iced lattes - and drive accordingly.
Where I Go for a Quiet Escape
Springbrook Prairie Trail is a 6-mile loop perfect for biking, walking, running, or whatever your outdoorsy heart desires. Complete the loop twice for a longer workout that you'll feel proud of. The trail has relatively little shade, so be sure to pack a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and plenty of water.
