Making the Move from OH to New Jersey: The Honest Comparison

Trading the Midwest for the East Coast brings more culture shock than most people anticipate, and an Ohio to New Jersey move is no exception. Ohio offers affordable neighborhoods, a slower pace of life, and the kind of breathing room that comes with wide open spaces. New Jersey, on the other hand, throws you into a dense, fast moving environment where proximity to New York City shapes nearly everything from commute times to cost of living. The tax situation alone is enough to make your head spin when you go from one of the more budget friendly states to one of the highest taxed in the country. Our Snappy Scout team (Heather & Diane) dug into the real costs, logistical hurdles, and lifestyle adjustments you should have on your radar before you start loading the truck.

From Ohio to NJ: How the Food Scene Looks Different

Eating Like a Local in Ohio

if you want to eat like a real Buckeye, you gotta get Cincinnati chili the right way. It’s this weird, thin, spiced-up meat sauce (cinnamon and allspice vibes, no beans in the base) served over spaghetti. Don’t call it “chili” like Texas stuff, we know it’s different. Tips on ordering it: 3-way: Spaghetti + chili + a mountain of shredded cheddar cheese.
4-way: Add onions or beans.
5-way: All of it, cheese, onions, and beans.

Always ask for oyster crackers on the side and hit it with hot sauce. And whatever you do, don’t put beans on first if you’re ordering a 4-way, locals will side-eye you hard.

Eating Like a Local in New Jersey

Every diner has something they're famous for. Order that. Don't order something too fancy. Avoid the red sauce unless you have inside information that it doesn't come from a can. Splurge on those amazing looking cakes or pies. And we judge diners by their fries. If their fries aren't good, we might not be back.
