What Jackson Weather Is Really Like — Jackson

Is it going to swamp-steam, tornado, or maybe something worse? The summers are like Casey Jones' boiler room, the winters barely earn a coat, but look out for surprise tornados. Here's what else is going on around Jackson that will impact the time you spend outside.

Mike, Our Local Expert Guiding Your Move

Michael is a Tennessee native who has lived, worked, or worn out tires in all three divisions of the state, from Memphis to Nashville to Johnson City, plus plenty of small towns that never make postcards. He once moved from the far northeast corner of Tennessee to the far southwest for college, stayed twenty years, then somehow boomeranged right back to Appalachia. He knows the difference between mountain quiet and river loud, will defend Memphis BBQ like its a birthright, and can point you to everything from out of the way eateries to where locals actually hunt. We are not all barefoot moonshiners, but yes, some of us know where the real stuff is. At Snappy Scout Michael uses that deep statewide mileage to refine Tennessee moving guides so they're as real as a proper BBQ smoke ring, not some oven baked liquid smoke waste of calories.

What's the Weather Really Like in Jackson?

The forecast, the fashion, and the fine print locals wish someone had told them sooner.

Summer temps be like

Surface of the sun (mid to upper 90s) with a few cooling breezes that make it barely tolerable.

Winter lows are

Shockingly reasonable, honestly, (upper 20s to low 30s), until the next snowpocalypse hits Tennessee.

The humidity makes me

Breathe harder, frizz uncontrollably, even when almost bald, and question every life choice I've ever made.

Unique weather patterns

Tornado season keeps things spicy from March through May (and yes, the Hub City has a disturbing history of twisters), plus the occasional ice storm that shuts down the entire city for three days because someone saw a snowflake.

Local weather fashion tip

Layer like your life depends on it because it'll be 35 in the morning and 78 by lunch.

You know it's time to get out of town when

It's the third week of August and the heat index hasn't dipped below 105 since July 4th.

Bugs be like

Mosquitos the size of hummingbirds from May to October, and they travel in gangs; plus the occassional cicadia chorus and stinkbug clouds.

You're stuck indoors again today because

The air is so thick you could chew it and your weather app just says 'good luck' where the heat index should be.

Green thumb enthusiasts love

The ridiculously long growing season that lets you harvest tomatoes until Halloween and start planting again by Valentine's Day.

My Favorite Season in Jackson

Fall is always my favorite season anywhere, but especially in Jackson and West Tennessee. There is enough rural ambiance and color even without nearby mountains to let you know the country is nearby, and cooler temperatures make it perfect for outdoor BBQs, high school football, and making good use of your yard.
