Chattanooga Weather: Humid summers, mild winters and storm season
Is it going to thunderstorm, steam, or maybe something worse? Summers here are hotter than the Lookout Mountain Incline on payday, while winters are basically a rumor. Here’s what else Chattanooga throws your way that might affect your outdoor escapades.

Mike, Our Local Expert Guiding Your Move
Michael is a Tennessee native who has lived, worked, or worn out tires in all three divisions of the state, from Memphis to Nashville to Johnson City, plus plenty of small towns that never make postcards. He once moved from the far northeast corner of Tennessee to the far southwest for college, stayed twenty years, then somehow boomeranged right back to Appalachia. He knows the difference between mountain quiet and river loud, will defend Memphis BBQ like its a birthright, and can point you to everything from out of the way eateries to where locals actually hunt. We are not all barefoot moonshiners, but yes, some of us know where the real stuff is. At Snappy Scout Michael uses that deep statewide mileage to refine Tennessee moving guides so they're as real as a proper BBQ smoke ring, not some oven baked liquid smoke waste of calories.

What's the Weather Really Like in Chattanooga?
The forecast, the fashion, and the fine print locals wish someone had told them sooner.
Summer temps be like
Surface of the sun vibes (mid-90s with bonus hair-frizz humidity).
Winter lows are
Mostly a jacket-optional situation (upper 20s to low 30s) until the occasional snowmageddon blows in.
The humidity makes me
Question every life decision I've ever made.
Unique weather patterns
Trapped between mountains means fog rolls in like a moody teenager, plus you get surprise thunderstorms that appear out of absolutely nowhere on perfectly sunny afternoons.
Local weather fashion tip
Layers are your religion here. Tank top at 2pm and fleece by 7pm, because Tennessee weather has commitment issues.
You know it's time to get out of town when
July and August turn the entire city into a sauna and everyone who can afford it disappears to the mountains or a lake with better breezes.
Bugs be like
Mosquitos treat you like an all-you-can-eat buffet from May through September, and the cicadas provide an unsolicited summer soundtrack.
You're stuck indoors again today because
Another pop-up thunderstorm decided to park itself over your neighborhood for three hours straight.
Green thumb enthusiasts love
The long growing season that lets you harvest tomatoes until October and grow basically anything that thrives in humidity, which is pretty much everything except your will to weed in August.
My Favorite Season in Chattanooga
Fall in Chattanooga is the "golden era" for scenic or exercise hikers. The cooling temperatures make it perfect, and the surrounding mountain foliage peaks about late october to mid November. Chattanooga is a great city for browsing and fall is the best time to explore and enjoy all it has to offer.
