Glendale Neighborhood Guide

Glendale is a quiet, residential corner of Queens that has held onto an old-school outer-borough identity long after much of the city moved on. Bounded by Forest Park to the west and Woodhaven Boulevard to the east, the neighborhood retains a distinctly Central European character rooted in generations of German and Eastern European families who settled here and largely stayed. Driveways, modest attached homes, and a slower pace of life are the draws, and the Atlas Park shopping center on the eastern edge gives residents a practical retail anchor without requiring a trip anywhere near Manhattan. Getting around depends almost entirely on buses, with no subway access, which keeps Glendale feeling insular in both the best and most inconvenient senses of that word.
