Heather, Our Local Expert Guiding Your Move

Heather has lived in Ohio for 36 years, minus a brief three-year stint in Kentucky (thanks, parents). Born in Appalachian southeastern Ohio, she later moved to the city and spent years wondering where all the cows went and why everyone was suddenly in such a darn hurry. She's adapted...mostly. That culture shock taught her Ohio doesn't get enough credit for its range of flat farmland, Amish hills, and mini mountains all crammed into one state. When she's not writing copy while binging true crime podcasts, she's hunting down a "bubble" from Jackson County (if you know, you know) or stealing the last slice of pie from her husband at So Pizza in Miamisburg. She's telling you about So Pizza with reluctance, because long lines would ruin everything. At Snappy Scout, Heather writes Ohio guides that don't waste your time and occasionally drops puns that may or may not land. You've been warned.

What Will You Do in Toledo?

From weekend adventures to iconic road trips, here's how locals spend their time off.

on a Saturday with perfect weather

Stroll the Toledo Botanical Garden like a plant influencer. It is free, quiet, and the plants won't judge your outfit.

when the gals come to town for the weekend

Wine tasting in the Warehouse District or the Middlegrounds with waterfront views. It is a classy way to forget you are in the Midwest for a few hours.

dude hangout

A Mud Hens game with too many hot dogs. It is the law. If you don't leave with a mild stomach ache, you didn't do it right.

rainy dreary day

The Toledo Museum of Art. General admission is still zero dollars, so you can stare at a Picasso while your socks dry.

intellectually stimulating

Planetarium shows at the Ritter Planetarium. They make you question your entire existence, which is a fun break from questioning why you moved here.

artsy

The Glass Pavilion. It showcases why Toledo owns the glass game and reminds you that sand is more successful than you are.

something inside and free

Wander one of the best art museums in America. Seriously, it is world-class and doesn't cost a dime. Stop complaining.

outdoorsy

Kayaking the Maumee River. You can pretend to be a Great Lakes explorer until you realize you are just paddling past a power plant.

family oriented

The Toledo Zoo. The hippos have an underwater viewing suite that is nicer than most downtown lofts.

you have to see this

Tony Packo’s hot dog shrine. It features celebrity-signed buns, which is exactly as weird as it sounds.

on a budget

Free museum day is every day. Use the money you saved to buy a sweater for the eight-month winter.

for sports fans

Catch the Walleye hockey team at the Huntington Center. They just clinched a 2026 playoff berth, so you can watch them defend the "frozen tundra" in style.

My Favorite Local Spot in Toledo

Kengo Sushi & Yakitori. It is a tiny downtown spot. You'll feel like you're in a real city for an hour while watching someone torch a piece of wagyu. It’s better than your average corn-fed steak, and I don’t even care if that’s blasphemy.
