Bayway Neighborhood Guide

Bayway sits at the southern edge of Elizabeth where the city meets the Arthur Kill waterway and the sprawling ExxonMobil refinery complex that has defined this corner of New Jersey for generations. The neighborhood is framed by the Goethals Bridge approaches, the NJ Turnpike's Exit 13, and Bayway Circle, making it one of the more highway-saturated pockets in the region and a practical base for people whose lives run on commute logistics and industrial shift work. The refinery is not background here, it is the skyline, the economy, and to some degree the air, and residents tend to be clear-eyed about that tradeoff. What the neighborhood offers in return is affordable rent, genuine working-class community, and a no-frills practicality that does not bother pretending to be something else. Bayway is industrial Elizabeth at its most unvarnished, and for the people who call it home, that is precisely the point.
