Auburndale Neighborhood Guide

Auburndale sits in the northeastern corner of Queens, bounded by Northern Boulevard to the north and the Long Island Expressway to the south, stretching toward the Nassau County border in a part of the city that feels genuinely suburban without technically leaving it. The neighborhood is defined by its housing stock of detached homes with driveways and yards, a rarity in New York City, and by Northern Boulevard's dense corridor of Korean restaurants and car dealerships that gives the area its most distinctive commercial character. Large parks buffer the residential streets, and LIRR access at the Auburndale station makes the tradeoff of distance from Manhattan more manageable for commuters headed to midtown or beyond. That said, getting anywhere below 34th Street takes effort, and residents have largely made peace with the fact that owning a car here is less a luxury than a practical necessity. For anyone willing to accept a longer commute in exchange for a house, a yard, and a serious Korean BBQ scene, Auburndale delivers in ways few other city neighborhoods can.
